I know I said there wouldn't be another 1.x release of phpWebSite. I lied.

I got two new translations from Olivier Sannier (French) and Han Velthuis (Dutch). I also received a plethora of new modules from Verdon and a 2 column companion to his vv_3Col theme. There were also some annoying bugs that needed stompin. Therefore, 1.6.3 is available for download (also in zip format).

Read more for information on Verdon's new modules and theme.

Below are some descriptions of Verdon's modules. Some exciting stuff here:

vList

vList is a module for listing pretty much whatever you want. vList listings may be classified by any number of criteria. You are free to define your own fields to completely customize your listing template.

Many settings options allow you to essentially build your own module. vList will also take advantage of Rolodex data if you have it installed, and are choosing to use Users in vList settings.

vMail

vMail allows you to provide simple, spam-proof mailto forms on your site, without exposing your recipients' e-mail addresses.

Forms are keyed items and may be easily added to menus or other content. A list of all vMail recipients is provided, as well as an optional sidebox for a quick 'contacts' list.

vShop

vShop is an e-commerce module for phpwebsite. vShop allows you to maintain an inventory of products, organized into departments. Features include shopping cart, many configuration options, including messages, versatile tax setup, shipping options, Paypal and Cheque payment methods built-in, support for adding other payment modules, optional inventory control, and so on.

Elections

Elections is a module that allows you to run one or more elections (ballots). A ballot may have a title, a description, an image, and any number of candidates. Ballots may be set to be public viewable (or not), public may vote (or not), min and max selections settings, and many other options. Ballots may also be set to allow ranking of candidates (assign points to candidates).

Candidates may have a title, description and image, as well as up to four optional custom fields.

Although voting is logged, only the fact that a vote was cast is logged. All voting is secret. At this time, a recorded vote is not supported.

There are many options, settings and reports. Please explore.

Finc

Finc is a module that allows you to include the contents of a file on the server, and puts it in a content box. It also creates a phpws key for the include, so that it can be categorized, menued easily, and so on.

Podcaster

Podcaster is a module that provides a complete toolset for publishing multi-media blogs.

Rolodex

Rolodex provides a multi-purpose directory, suitable for businesses, clubs and organizations of all sorts.

Rolodex ties into several core mods, including users and demographics. This allows user/member data to be shared by any module also using these core services.

Rolodex can be configured in many different ways, from simple to complex. User-definable fields are also available.

VV_2COL THEME

vv_2Col is a theme skeleton like vv_3Col This theme is meant to be a clean framework for a 2 column layout. It is not meant to be used as is and the colours are a little quirky on purpose. They should help you get a sense of the structure quickly though. I have tried to comment the css with enough information to get you started. Most people will only ever need to edit default.css to achieve many different looks and feels. Be sure to read the README in the theme's folder for further information.

vList

Just a quick note on vList. This is the first version of what I think is an exciting new module. I am already tweaking and adding new features, so keep watching for new versions. I will try to keep releases early and often, and will keep the updates smooth Smile

Thanks

Thanks Matt, Verdon and all others who contributed to this release.
I like the power, flexibility and customizability of phpWebSite. Even when code mods are required the code is well structured and relatively easy to follow.
Looking forward to trying out some of the new modules.

Installation instructions

I am a newbie... found a version on the cpanel... and received this error twice
Error: splitDateObject did not receive a date object.
Maybe if I install a new version it will remove this message... I can do a complete reinstall because I am just at the tutorial stages. Can I uninstall the old one, and just unzip the new one in my public drive?
Thanks for your time.

Re:Installation instructions

The one you found with your cpanel is actually distributed by Fantastico and is very old. You will not get it to install on a modern server. Start fresh with version 1.6.3. You should also try the forums at phpwsforums.com and the Documentation link here, for a little more info.
