Guidelines
General Information
- phpWebSite is Open Source software. It is released without warranty and without cost.
- This program is created for Appalachian State University. It is released publically for the benefit of the Open Source community and ourselves
- Those interested in assisting in the development of phpWebSite may contact us to become a developer
- All bugs should be posted to Sourceforge
- phpWebSite is written to function on a Linux server running MySQL and Apache compiled with PHP version 5.1.2 or higher. We cannot always assist those having problems on different configurations (especially Microsoft OS). We will make an attempt to help you get your site operational if you send us the configuration specifications of your web server. Reports of simply I installed it and it doesn't work' will not suffice.
Working with other Developers
- Complaints of coding style or the direction of phpWebSite will be given consideration. Trolls and flames will be ignored.
- Code speaks louder than words
- Many developers come from different backgrounds and ability levels. They all, however, share one characteristic: all are working for free. Each chose to spend their spare time creating something for which they get little thanks and no payment. Therefore, no matter how much you have coded, or how long you have been programming, we are all equal. Always keep this in mind when dealing with others.
- Those working with phpWebSite in a commercial environment or performing sponsored development for phpWebSite for will not receive precedence above the rest of community. You may discuss release timelines with us, but these decisions will ultimately be decided by the Project Managers. Plan accordingly.
- PhpWebSite exists because of the talents of our students, not in spite of them. We want our students to be exposed to realities of working with other developers in the Open Source community. While we are pleased that phpWebSite is widely used, please recall that it is a University project and its main goal is to support the students of the university.
Our number one goal is to foster a healthy, helpful, and most of all, a cooporative development environment. Everything else takes seconds to this philosophy.
