UseradministrationGuide
The following guide will explain the function of the User Administration module and how to use it.
What is the User Administration Module?
The User Administration module is the fast and intuitive way to add users to your site, modify user groups, set permissions and set many other settings and options for users of your website.
How do you use the User Administration Module?
The first step to using the User Administration Module is to go to the Administration tab of your Control Panel, from there click on the User Administration icon.

Once you are in the User Administration module, you will have quite a few tabs, the first is the New User tab. This will allow you to add a new user to your website. With this tab you can quickly and easily add a new account, this is especially important if you turn off public account signup. (Covered in the Settings tab.) To create a new user, simply add a username, Display name, Password and enter the user's e-mail address and click Add user and they're created.

The next tab is the Manage User tab. Here you will see a list of every user signed up on your website. You also have the power to deactivate a users account (the account will exist but they cannot log on any more), delete an account or edit an account, this will even allow you to change user's passwords and you can also see the last time a user has signed into their account. The only exceptions are Deities. These are users with the power to modify your site, you will not be able to modify their accounts. (Deities are phpWebsite administrators.)

The New Group tab is next. In this tab you can create new a new user group. Simply enter a name for the group and click Add group.

When you click Add group, you will be taken to the Manage Groups tab. Here you can Edit, change group permissions, view/add/remove members in groups by clicking Members, deactivate a group or remove the group. Note to learn more about permissions visit the Permissions Guide.

The next tab is the Authorization tab. This tells phpWebSite where the usernames are stored. These settings are mostly for use by ESS and not for normal users.

The final tab is the Settings tab. Here you can determine the settings for users and adding new users. You can change the site's contact e-mail, decide if you want the login box to show up, allow users to have the site remember their computer and keep that machine logged in each visit, and you can determine how you want user signups for your site to be handled. You can choose between Not Allowed, this will mean the only registered users of your site will be yourself, phpWebSite admins and anyone you add with the New Member tab. The other options are Immediate and E-mail verification. Immediate will mean that if a user signs up and registers, they will immediately be a user and their account activated. E-mail verification means that the user has to wait for an e-mail before their account will be activated to prove that the e-mail they gave is valid and that they are a real person. (Accounts not activated will be deleted within 48 hours.) You are also able to set graphic authentication which is also a means of keeping programs from signing up for accounts, usually with the purpose of spamming. Finally, you can add forbidden usernames to a list, one per line. Any usernames that appear here will be unavailable to anyone that attempts to sign up.

You can now use the User Administration module to add, edit and modify user permissions as you see fit.
Permissions
All modules have a set of permissions that can be set to allow a user/user group or users/user groups to have different access to each module. These options are available through the User Administration module and you can learn more about permissions in the Permissions Guide. The User Administration module allows you to give users none or unrestricted permission. If users are given unrestricted permission, they will be able to have full access to the module the same as you do as the site administrator. If they are given no permission, they will not be able to modify the module. You can also give the user(s) the power to edit/delete users, add/edit groups, delete groups, edit permissions, and authorization/settings.
